I am giving you a quick life update because a lot has slightly (or more) changed these past few days/weeks... All GOOD news!
I will still have work during the Games at The Box Office of The o2! This wasn't so sure until last week when we finally got told what was going to happen! It will actually be really busy at times and we will also be getting paid more per hour!
Other than that, I am now on a zero hour contract with them and have become a real employee! Before I had been on a casual agreement for 3 years and that didn't mean anything really... I'm glad I stuck with this job so I could see the day when this happened! It's not as good as a full-time position but it's a pretty good step in that direction for me.
Along the changes of contracts and such, they have also changed the way in which they pay our holiday pay. We now accrue 12% of our pay (which has just gone up) per hour worked, that's put on the side for us and we can claim it whenever we don't work. Before whatever you didn't work, you didn't get paid for (no 28 days holiday per year for me!). That is pretty exciting indeed!
Naturally with the Games in London this year comes thousands of opportunities. I just signed up with an agency to become temp Olympic Box Office Manager, which is REALLY exciting, as it is our reputation for being very good at our job (and managing ourselves well without supervision) that gained my colleagues and myself this great opportunity!!
